Itehadi 2007

I started this body of work as a means of clarifying what national identity is for the people of Pakistan. For nationality to exist solidarity and unity is mandatory; unable to embrace and understand the diversity that the people of Pakistan present I attempted (unsuccessfully) to coup them up in one category with a single homogenous identity. Realizing the rigidity of concepts such as a puritan culture and identity I embraced the variety that is indeed the identity of Pakistan.

What was in effect a tongue in cheek comment on my own identity as a Pakistani became a startling insight. After analyzing the brief history of Pakistan, I realized that the military, which is not part of the evident diversity of our nation, might indeed be the identifying symbol of Pakistan.
